  1. Utilize traditional DBT skills and new DBT family skills with parents and families

  2. Run a DBT parent skill group

  3. Build a treatment target hierarchy with families (including self-harm, aggression, substance use, angry outbursts, withdrawal, other relationship problems)

  4. Manage dysregulated and chaotic family members in order to conduct an effective session

  5. Apply chain analyses with two or more family members simultaneously (“double chains”), to expose dysfunctional steps when emotions and/or actions escalate out of control

  6. Use principles and intervention strategies of DBT with families to develop solution analyses, including practice and generalization

The overarching goals of these interventions are to help families become less reactive and destructive, and instead more peaceful, collaborative and loving, and to increase positive outcomes for parents, youth, adult children, couples and their relationships.

Supervision

The clinical research is clear: when parents and families are involved in treatment, outcomes improve, for the struggling loved one, and for everyone around them.

If you’d like to discuss your supervision needs in working with couples and families, please contact Amanda Young, MSW, RSW directly.
