Feel more empowered as a parent

When your adolescent or young adult struggles to manage big emotions, it’s easy to feel overwhelmed, burnt out, or like nothing you try is working.

Parent Coaching gives you real skills, not just reassurance, to move from feeling helpless to feeling more confident and equipped in your interactions with your child.

It’s possible to restore a sense of calm and connection in your home.

How parent coaching works

You’ll meet individually (or as a couple) with a therapist, to understand how your family’s unique patterns may be contributing to the difficulties your child is having regulating their emotions.

Your therapist will help you learn the specific parenting skills most relevant to your situation, so you can reduce conflict at home, support your child’s emotional wellbeing, and ease your own burnout as a parent.

What you’ll learn

  • Understand the patterns of behaviour that are fuelling conflict in your family

  • Learn how to apply parenting skills to your specific situation

  • Learn how to reduce conflict at home and increase emotional regulation in yourself and your child.

  • How to support your relationship with your child even in the toughest of times

Issues I help parents with

Every family is different, but these are some of the situations I’ve supported parents through:

  • Supporting an adolescent or young adult child who is struggling with a mental health issue (anxiety, depression, BPD, substance use, OCD)

  • Understanding and responding to a highly sensitive child’s big emotions

  • Resolving specific issues of disagreement (life choices, need for autonomy)

  • Supporting a young adult child who is “struggling to launch”

  • Navigating shifting expectations around household responsibilities and limits as your child moves into young adulthood.

  • Conflict that flares up around family gatherings or when other relatives weigh in

  • Finding the right therapist for your child, one who’s a good fit both in expertise and in how they connect with your child

FAQ’s

What’s the difference between Parent Coaching and the Parent Skills Group, which is right for us?

Parent Coaching is one-on-one support tailored to your specific family situation. The Parent Skills Group is a 12-week virtual program where you learn new skills alongside other parents, each week combines teaching with the chance to share how your practice went and learn from other parents successes and challenges. It’s focused on building and practicing skills, not on discussing everyone’s individual struggles in depth. Many parents say one of the most valuable parts is realizing they’re not the only one navigating these challenges.

If you’re looking for personalized, one-on-one guidance for your unique situation, Parent Coaching may be the better fit. If you’d benefit from a more structured approach, at lower cost with the support of other parents going through similar things, the Parent Skills Group could be a great option, and some parents do both.

If you’re feeling burnt out and helpless as a parent, we’re here to help.
